QUOTE FOR ADVENT
Optimism and hope are radically different attitudes. Optimism is the expectation that things—the weather, human relationship, the economy, the political situation, and so on—will get better. Hope is trust that God will fulfill God’s promises to us in a way that leads us to true freedom
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7 AT 6:00 PM
Big Wednesday is this Wednesday! We will gather together for dinner and fellowship as a community of all ages in the Fellowship Hall, followed by an evening focused around the Advent themes of longing, lament, and hope. The adult
program will include teaching on these topics, as well as practicing them in song, prayer, and Scripture. There will also be childcare for our youngest JKPC kids as well as a children’s program for 1st through 6th graders.
WEDNESDAYS AT 1:30 PM IN THE CHAPEL DURING ADVENT
Need some quiet, reflective space this Advent season? Come to the chapel at 1:30 pm on Wednesdays. Pastor Leigh will lead us through a simple time of silence and a short reflection. Join us in the stillness.
CHRISTMAS SERVICE SCHEDULE
Children worship with their families at all the services listed above.
A cry room available for infants.
CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 31 AND JANUARY 7 FROM 9:00 AM TO 4:00 PM
Bring your Christmas tree to John Knox for recycling. Boy Scout Troop 392 will chip it and turn it into mulch that JKPC gets to keep for landscaping. This is an excellent way to help the scouts, the environment, and John Knox. The event is a fundraiser. If you’d like to support the Scouts, checks can be made out to Troop 392. Please take all the decorations off your tree: no flocked trees, no tinsel, and no nails. Thanks so much for supporting the Boy Scouts.
NEW CHURCH DIRECTORIES ARE HERE
The newest version of the church directory is now available. Be sure to pick up you copy at the Welcome Center on Sunday.
AN ILLUSTRATED ADVENT FOR FAMILIES–
While we hope all of you have signed up for the email Advent devotional for individuals, if you have young children in your home, we would like to offer you a tangible way to interact with your children around Advent. Please stop by the Welcome Center and pick up a copy of An Illustrated Advent for Families. There are many activities suggested that help children engage in this season and recognize our Lord Jesus as the reason it all happens. Questions, please talk with email@example.com
YOUNG ADULT GAME NIGHT
Wear your Christmas sweaters (ugly or otherwise) and play games! Your favorite games and snacks are welcome. We will meet at the Nordmans’ house: 23425 26th Ave S., Des Moines 98198.
GOOD BEER, BETTER CONVERSATION
Sometimes, theology can be a difficult topic for us to wrap our minds around. On Thursday, December 15 from 7:00-9:00 PM, a group will gather at Tuscany at Des Moines Creek Restaurant (21830 Marine View Dr. S) to discuss ideas about God and how our thoughts impact our minds. We call this “Theology Pub,” and we would love to have you join us. We may not have the answers, but we promise we will ask real questions about God and how he is working in our lives. Questions? Contact Kim Ells, firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you were in church on Sunday, here is the clip that Chris mentioned in his sermon. If you missed it, listen to the sermon and then watch this clip.
