“And while we wait for the Christ Child,
we are enthralled by the things of Caesar -
money … power … control
and all the well-being that comes from
such control, even if it requires violence
But in the midst of the decree will come this long-expected Jesus
full of grace and truth,
grace and not power,
truth and not money,
mercy and not control.
We also dwell in the land of Caesar;
we pray for the gift of your spirit,
that we may loosen our grip on the things of Caesar,
that we may turn our eyes toward the babe,
our ears towards the newness,
our hearts toward the gentleness,
our power and money and control
toward your new governance.”

2016 CHRISTMAS OFFERING
BENEFITS THE HIGHLINE AREA FOOD BANK
As the Christmas season of giving ends in December, donations to the Food Bank drop significantly while the need continues to be just as great. With your donations, the Food Bank can purchase large quantities of bulk items, including produce at reduced rates. Please help our mission partner continue to be well stocked for the coming winter months. Use the special Christmas envelope included in your offering envelope packet or mark “Food Bank Christmas” on the memo line of your check or pew envelope. You can also donate online via the website at www.jkpcusa.org.
Thank you for your generosity!
COOKIES NEEDED FOR CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICES
Christmas Eve is a special time to warmly welcome our neighbors and guests to worship with us. As we extend friendship and hospitality, we would like to offer cookies and coffee in the Atrium.
Will you consider providing 2 dozen cookies for Christmas Eve? If so, please bring your cookies to the Fellowship Hall kitchen on Friday, December 23rd and they will be plated and served.
You can assist us by visiting the cookie post and signing yourself up!
CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 31 AND JANUARY 7 FROM 9:00 AM TO 4:00 PM
Bring your Christmas tree to John Knox for recycling. Boy Scout Troop 392 will chip it and turn it into mulch that JKPC gets to keep for landscaping. Christmas tree recycling is an excellent way to help the scouts, the environment, and John Knox. The event is a fundraiser. If you’d like to support the Scouts, checks can be made out to Troop 392. Please take all the decorations off your tree: no flocked trees, no tinsel, and no nails. Thanks so much for supporting the Boy Scouts.
CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR’S SERVICE SCHEDULE
Children worship with their families at all the services listed above.
CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR’S DAY SCHEDULES–
As we will only have one service on each of these Sundays, we will not be offering any children’s programs (Infant Nursery – 6th Grade) to allow everyone to worship together. Our worship services are intended to be shorter and inclusive for people of all ages on these days in particular. Please contact Kristine Jung at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
GOOD BEER, BETTER CONVERSATION
Sometimes, theology can be a difficult topic for us to wrap our minds around. On Thursday, December 15 from 7:00-9:00 PM, a group will gather at Tuscany at Des Moines Creek Restaurant (21830 Marine View Dr. S) to discuss ideas about God and how our thoughts impact our minds. We call this “Theology Pub,” and we would love to have you join us. We may not have the answers, but we promise we will ask real questions about God and how he is working in our lives. Questions? Contact Kim Ells, email@example.com.
